Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that it will be accepting four new language tests for applicants on the Student Direct Stream (SDS) effective August 10, 2023.
In the past, students could only apply for the SDS if they had passed the IELTS. Those who passed the PTE or other language tests were not eligible for SDS; Such students had to complete IELTS even after passing the other tests in order to apply under the SDS.
Acceptable new language tests are :
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP General)
- Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL)
- Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT)
All test scores must demonstrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
