Swinburne University Success Story

He is a very ambitious student from Warangal. After graduation worked for Wipro sometime in Mumbai and did not like what he was doing and was not happy about spending time on something that he is not liking to the core and was feeling down about not using time productively. When he shared the same with his father he advised him to quit and study abroad in any country of his choice and program too. The student has chosen Australia for many obvious reasons like many other Indian students and today he is very very happy about his decision and the transformation he lived and experienced in Australia which helped him to discover his potential and the new and more confident HIM.

In the words of the student:
The student did his elective in the 3rd semester which he was supposed to do in the 4th semester. During the 4th semester, a senior lecturer in Swinburne interviewed him to check his preparedness for the job market which the university usually does to help graduates land a job after graduation. His name is Dr Caslon Chua from the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. The student recalls my statement here - Professors are the first window to the industry and being in the best books of the professors always helps immensely for students. During the 4th semester when the students were being interviewed to check their preparedness for the industry and also to uphold the reputation of the Swinburne University before shortlisting candidates to be sent to any employer for screening for any jobs/positionsand.

This guy was shortlisted and his profile was sent to the employer for further screening. The student was then invited for an interview by the employer and it is Project X IT and Security and he cleared the two rounds of interview and finally was offered an internship role as a "Penetration Tester" and that was unpaid for 6 months which he started October in 2019 as a part of his 4th semester study with the university. After 6 months he was offered a full time role with AUD 55000 for the first three months during the probation and then AUD 80000 after probation with a full-time employee status. Unfortunately the owner of the firm died due to some health reasons and the firm went into liquidation he adds. However the student says - the 6 months of internship experience and the 1.5 months of full time probation experience built his confidence like anything to navigate the job market and to crack interviews for careers he was looking for.

He immediately started looking for jobs and uploaded his profiles everywhere possible and soon he got a call from a company in less than a month and he cleared the interview there. The name of the company is SecureMation in Brisbane and the reporting date is June 1st week. His position is Security Analyst and will be paid AUD 55000 during the first 3 months of probation and then AUD 60000 after probation. All in all the student is super happy about the study and learning experience in SWINBURNE University and that would by all means be a formative experience in life. Happy evening & take care!

Success story of a student - MIT (Professional)

University - Deakin University
Program - Master of Information Technology (Professional)
Graduated - November 2018

Deakin University has a career center called DEAKIN TALENT which helps students connect with the industry during study for internships and after study for full-time jobs. The student while during the 3rd semester did internship in a company called Eastern Volunteers. It was a 3 months internship and the student did that substitute to a unit in the 3rd semester and that used to be 2 days a week and that was totally unpaid and he was doing programming then for the company.

During the 4th semester Deakin University was approached by a company (there could be several other companies too) called Make It Mine and they asked Deakin University to select 5 student applications for 2 positions and this student was one who got selected for the company. There was a panel interview and they selected 2 people and this guy is one. He says his internship experience and the reference from the internship employer helped him a lot in getting the job in Make It Mine.

He is a Software Developer with the company and is paid AUD $ 60000 per annum with 9.5% Superannuation. He says he gets on hand approx AUD $4200 per month after taxes. He will complete 1 year experience and then he will apply for Migration Skill Assessment with the Australian Computer Society. He is also sure about clearing IELTS with 8 bands in all and if that is the case his points score would be

Qualification - 15 points
Australian study - 05 points
Age (25 -32) - 30 points
1 yr IT experience in Australia - 05 points
IELTS (G) 8 in all - 20 points

Total score would be - 75 points

He would nominate himself for Software and Applications Programmers and that is running at 70 points as per pro-rata allocation now and since this guy is expecting 8 bands in all and I am sure he will, in such case he would get the invitation from the Home Affairs, Australia in the first selection round of his EOI being submitted. Happy reading and use the same while counselling folks. Have a great Sunday with family and friends.

DeakinTALENT is your Anytime-Anywhere Careers and Employment Service with Deakin University to help students find internships and jobs after graduation.

A student of IVY during his third semester did an internship which he found by himself with great effort in a company called Eastern Volunteers. It was a three months internship and the student did that as a substitute to a unit in third semester which used to be a 2 days a week thing. He was into programming for the company which was totally unpaid again.

During the fourth semester, the student got an opportunity through DeakinTALENT, as it looks for candidates with potential and who are prepared to deliver on the job from the day one to be referred to employers, for a company called Make It Mine. Five student applications were picked up by the DeakinTALENT for two positions and this student's profile was picked up by the company and he was invited for an interview. There was a panel interview and he could finally crack the interview. The student attributes his success to the reference from the internship employer and the experience he gained while working there as a programmer.

He now finally works for the company Make It Mine as a Software Developer and is paid AUD 60000 per annum with 9.5% superannuation. What not people do to land a job in Australia and that is when they feel transformed and the journey seems to be fulfilling once they land a job after graduation.

Recruitment and training is a very expensive thing overseas unlike India. And, hence have your resume do the talking that, you can perform on the job from day one to which you are applying to. Graduating without local experience and skills that your job demands from day one, is like graduating into a world of no opportunities and vice-versa.
